SHACKLES OF BABYLON: A Poem written during the Bush Era

Authority tries to persuade our minds away

We see the truth of many devastating failures

Moved by the thought of this nation changing

These eyes wait to receive that beauty of sight

The capitol is under siege from demanding voices

Senators are placed in a position to create peace

Music of protest echoes the sound of our time

Newspapers print the deaths of innocent souls

Young men and women are given guns to kill

Iraqis in the streets scream with their blood

American families look on as chaos erupts

Dragged under the sand have been our thoughts

Tanks move into position to shatter more homes

Insurgents remain calm as an attack is planned

Threats from Iran are as clear as the silent moon

Two more soldiers die from a crashing plane

Evil smiles with a grin of pure hatred

To stay the course remains a quote of illusion

The presidential strategy is formed by failure

Buried reasons for war are in our conscience

Silence distracts the mind from its duty

Freedom is the foundation of our lives

War corrupts the heart as citizens speak out

Tears now drip from a young widows face

Reading of how her husband gave his life

Children breathe sorrow for those who fell

The region is slowly becoming a powder keg

World War Three could slip in unnoticed

Escalating madness through an ancient land

Beggars for peace shout across the sand

Provinces ripped apart by secular violence

Civil war spreads like a wildfire of death

A religious riff for over a thousand years

Mistrust runs deep through all of Baghdad

Faith in stability is a belief unfulfilled

Confusion for the future is at every turn

An exit for the troops must be revealed

For we are now in the shackles of Babylon
